How to Host a Healthy Cookout ANYONE Will Love!

If you’ve ever experienced friends or family members doubting that your healthy way of eating is actually tasty as well as good for you, a cookout is the perfect time to prove them wrong! With warm weather upon us, fire up the grill, gather your loved ones, and host a healthy cookout that will turn even the most skeptical junk food eater into a believer that healthy foods can be delicious. Follow these tips to host your healthy cookout like a pro!

Tip 1: Start with the Protein. If you build your cookout around quality protein options you’ve already made significant headway in creating your delicious and healthy cookout. Avoid processed meats and choose lean meats (choose organic or grassfed selections when possible). Fish is also terrific on the grill, as are portabello mushrooms for anyone looking for a vegetarian alternative. You can even include hotdogs in your healthy fare as long as you opt for ones that are nitrate free with no fillers.

Tip 2: Throw the Veggies Right on the Grill. Make cooking easier for yourself while increasing everyone’s veggie intake by putting veggies on the grill too. Some options, like corn on the cob, can go right on the grill while others can be tossed in a grill basket.

Tip 3: Replace the Mayo. Cookouts are often filled with mayo made with refined oils heavy options like potato salad, pasta salad, and more. Don’t skip these favorite dishes, but instead replace them with heart healthy options like avocado and extra virgin olive oil. Your guest will only notice the improved flavor!

Tip 4: Change Up Dessert. Sugary desserts with refined carbs can quickly derail an otherwise healthy cookout. Keep up the momentum of your healthy cookout by serving refreshing, cold melon wedges for dessert instead. Bonus: not only are melons sweet tasting and good for you, they’re also a quick no-cook addition to any cookout!
