Top Five Healthy Habits of Happy, Busy Parents

Regardless of how old your kids are, whether you work inside or outside the home, or what your parenting style is, one thing is for sure: parenting is quite the balancing act!  And though parenting will always be a balancing act, some habits can help you stay healthier and happier in the midst of the chaos. Take a look at the top five habits of happy, busy parents.

1.   Fuel Body. Grabbing something quick from a package can seem like an easy way to save time, but ultimately taking the time to nourish you body with healthy, whole foods will better serve you. Why? These foods will give you steady energy to take on your day and help you fight illness and stay healthier both now and in your future.

2.   Prioritize. The fact is we just can’t do it all. And that’s okay. Take time to take inventory of your priorities and let some of the less important things go by the way. Give yourself the grace to let the dishes sit in the sink overnight or whatever it is you need to make the most of each day!

3.   Plan. Similar to prioritizing, it’s healthy to take some time to plan your day. Set aside as little as five minutes to plan each day. Not only will it help you get more done, but the act of writing down your plan will release some stress and prevent you from constantly mentally rehashing your to-dos.

4.   Sweat it Out. Taking time to exercise can feel self-indulgent to a busy parent, but in reality it helps you to be a better parent by providing you with stress relief, better health, and more energy. Don’t worry–you aren’t bound to the gym if that’s not your thing. Go for a walk, take a hike, or play a game of tennis. As long as you are moving, anything goes!

5.   Enjoy Family. The final hallmark habit of happy, busy parents is taking the time to enjoy their families. To prevent letting your family feel like just another ball you have to juggle, set aside time regularly to do fun things together as a family.
